  1. One has to agree that the traditional routes to higher academic honours need radical revision, but perhaps even more radical than what is envisioned. In the good old days, every doctoral thesis was adding to existing knowledge in a meaningful way, but increasingly of late what actually emerges is a rehash of the known with some pretext at a novel slant.
